On April 9, 2024, at the Google Cloud Next conference in Las Vegas, Google introduced a groundbreaking tool set to redefine video creation: ‘Google Vids’. As part of the Google Workspace suite, this tool leverages AI to empower professionals to produce captivating video content effortlessly.

Aparna Pappu, VP & GM at Google Workspace, revealed Vids as a multifaceted solution for video editing, writing, and production. It’s designed to convert existing assets into dynamic videos within the browser, streamlining collaboration and eliminating the need to email files.

With Vids, users can start with a simple prompt and utilize their Google Drive files or Google’s stock content to storyboard their ideas. The tool allows for detailed customization, including reordering scenes, adding transitions, templates, and audio tracks. Team collaboration is real-time and secure, thanks to the familiar Workspace environment.

Currently in limited testing, Vids will extend to more testers in Google Labs come June and will eventually be accessible to Gemini for Workspace subscribers.
